Verdict

A potentially trappy handicap can be taken by BURGHLEY, who can confirm Chester placings with Jarrow, while Di Stefano might do better than on his seasonal return. The last-named has been dropped 3lbs after finishing last in a Sandown handicap in April. Mick Channon's gelding took a Ripon maiden last June and went well without winning in Listed company thereafter. He is better than his latest effort suggests and might just have needed it, so more is expected today. Jarrow was a length in arrears of our pick Burghley at Chester last week, when the pair tussled over a mile. This drop back in trip should suit both of them, and there shouldn't be much to choose between the pair once more, although we think that this first attempt at 6f could prove most fruitful for Michael Bell's gelding, who should relish the ground and has shown plenty of speed. Cockney Class would be interesting if backed on this, his handicap debut over a shorter distance, while Kanaf looked decent in taking a Nottingham maiden last month and handled the firm ground well, so he can't be ruled out on his introduction to this sphere. A very informative contest can go to Burghley.
