In depth

Verdict

Sabre D'Argent can follow up his very impressive debut win at the Craven Meeting, with Westmoreland Road the most likely forecast option. David Loder's US-bred colt went some way towards justifying a million dollar price tag when winning in very smooth fashion at Newmarket last month, beating Financial Future by an easy three and a half lengths. Sabre D'Argent is held in very high regard by his astute trainer and will be well suited by this trip. He looks a group horse in the making and should not be opposed in this company. Westmoreland Road fulfilled the promise of his sole juvenile start with an impressive maiden win at Newbury, and looks the most likely to chase the selection home, in preference to Calibre, who was heavily backed to win his seasonal debut at Newbury but proved to be a huge disappointment and is probably best watched for now. Black Falcon was an easy winner of a Newcastle maiden last time but is likely to find this company a lot harder.
