In depth

Verdict

Woody Valentine revelled in the heavy ground at Pontefract last time but we feel he will be just as effective on better ground and can beat Daring Affair and stablemate Hearthstead Dream. Mark Johnston's gelding got the better of Oddsmaker by a comfortable length and a quarter, a deserved success after some consistent performances, and has a great opportunity to land the double. Hearthstead Dream ran too badly to be true on his final outing of last season and is better judged on his previous efforts, which included a close third behind Manipulator at Hamilton. Daring affair will be threat to all if he can show the same ability on turf that he has been displaying on the artificial tracks. Time To Relax is another to consider in quite an open affair but for the selection it has to be Woody Valentine.
