Richard Hannon has a strong hand once again and we fancy EMERALD COMMANDER to be his trump card although there's plenty to like about Poltergeist on paper. This is a field chock full of nice prospects and connections of Ultravox are unlikely to lament if their colt doesn't make a winning debut; the yard's runners often need a run but Arcano was well backed when scoring here at the first time so, it's a case of the same old story, keep an eye on the market. Poltergeist is a half-brother to 2,000 Guineas runner-up Vital Equine amongst others so merits attention whilst it's interesting to see that Spa's Dancer has been given an entry for the National Stakes. Banana Republic is another to mention although it's worth noting that Dettori is nought from five on the yard's juveniles over the past five seasons. Emerald Commander is one of six entries for the yard but he could be the pick following an encouraging debut at Newmarket's July meeting. He ran in what is usually a well contested maiden and stayed on well to finish fourth having started slowly. He may not want the ground to ride too fast and he lacks big race entries at this stage but there was plenty to like about his debut and Emerald Commander could be the one to be with in what promises to be an informative maiden.
