A wide open sprint handicap to get the card underway and HOTHAM is the selection to win it. The main dangers look to be the Eric Alston pair of Princess Ellis, who showed blinding early speed last time, and Quiet Elegance. Hotham, a four-time winner on varying ground conditions, was beaten by the in-form Tony The Tap in a race run at a fierce gallop last time at Wolverhampton. With the race been run at a good pace, the form looks solid and the five-year-old is one of a number in with chances. Princess Ellis had lots to find at the weights last time in a Newmarket Listed race but belied her big odds to finish third. She is due to go up 3lb in future handicaps so theoretically is well treated here and a reproduction of her Newmarket effort would see her go close. Quiet Elegance is lightly raced and she should be monitored in the market compared to her stable companion. Being a half-sister to Reverence, she is bred to be fast and although disappointing since winning a conditions event earlier in the year, she indicated a return to form on her handicap debut last time. Irish Pearl could well have found her reappearance too quick at Leicester last time and is better judged by her fine second at Folkestone previously. The stiff climb here will suit Karl Burke's filly and she could reward those seeking some value. Green Park is another to consider - he ran creditably on the fibresand last time and although he is high in the weights and is drawn high, he is a consistent sort who very rarely fails to give his true running.
