made all, shaken up 1f out, quickened clear, easily
slowly into stride, ran green behind, ridden halfway, weakened final furlong
with leaders, ridden 2f out, lost place over 1f out, soon eased
chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, kept on final furlong
close up, ridden over 2f out, stayed on final furlong, no chance with winner
There is little for the backers to go on here with only two of the five runners having previous racecourse experience but that experience may be enough for Esprit d'Amour, who is preferred to the newcomers Gap Princess and Holdin Foldin. The last mentioned is a speedily bred debutant from the in-form yard of Karl Burke but the stable is not known for their great success with first time out juveniles. Similar comments apply to Alan Swinbank, who is represented by Persian Peril, while The Mighty Ogmore has give little real sign of encouragement in two starts so far. Richard Fahey's Noverre colt Gap Princess makes the most appeal among the newcomers but preference is for Tim Easterby's Esprit d'Amour, who has shown enough in three starts to suggest that he can win a race of this nature.
Holdin Foldin (IRE) Fayruz colt, half-brother to 5f winner Past Tender.
Persian Peril Erhaab gelding, half-brother to numerous winners up to 1m and over hurdles.
Esprit d'Amour (IRE) 22-1 (8-12) Soon chasing leaders, ridden over 1f out, stayed on final furlong, 4th of 10, 5l behind Opal Noir (9-3) at Redcar 5f 2yo mdn aut (6) gd in May.
Gap Princess (IRE) Noverre filly, half-sister to 1m2f winner Hazium.
The Mighty Ogmore 14-1 (8-12) Slowly into stride, in rear, ridden halfway, stayed on from over 1f out, not pace to challenge leaders, 4th of 7, 5l behind Middleham (9-3) at Carlisle 5f 2yo mdn (5) gs in May.
