In depth

Verdict

An uncompetitive contest and it will be a surprise if Rutledge Red cannot prevail. Malcolm Jefferson's charge looked a highly promising hurdler when a fluent winner over course and distance in late August and, with further improvement still to come, he should have little difficulty in overcoming a penalty against inferior rivals. Pharbeitfrome landed a handicap chase last time but that was a weak affair and he may not have the speed to cope back over timber while Silken Thyne has something to prove following a long absence.
