An ordinary handicap where Glencalvie is selected to get the better of in-form rivals such as:Torquemada, Danifah and Moon Legend, who spearhead the challenge in a race that contains a fair amount of deadwood to sift through. Growler and Fission are others to have a look at if the official figures for the race are anything to go by, as both have held their own at this sort of level and can play a strong hand if consenting to put their best feet forward. The former has made good progress in maidens this season and finally got off the mark at the ninth time of asking when he ploughed through the mud at Goodwood last month. The faster ground is less of a worry than his overall record in handicaps for the top weight and he may find a few too good on these terms. Torquemada is another that has a slightly shaky profile on past form and needs to prove that his effort at Leicester was not just a one off performance today. It is worth bearing in mind that he was absolutely friendless in the betting before that race and others make stronger cases for a follow up bid today. None more so than Glencalvie, who has bags of scope for improvement and should have very little trouble in coping with the prevailing conditions. Jeremy Noseda has been very patient with the son of Grand Lodge and his efforts can reap another slice of reward in a race that lacks strength in depth for future reference.
