Grand Palace is thriving just now and is selected in preference to Manello, Two Acres and Regal Royale. The last named is capable at this level and shaped as if he were on the way back with a solid effort at Kempton earlier this month. He does need to prove that effort was not just a flash-in-the-pan. But, as he is now on a very attractive mark compared with his best rating during his time with Sir Michael Stoute, this well-bred fellow should not be dismissed lightly. Two Acres is a lightly raced four-year-old that adapted well to the Lingfield surface on his solitary previous visit. A repeat dose would bring the son of Danetime right into the thick of the action and he is one to seriously monitor in the betting. Manello has long threatened to win a race of this nature and also merits respect. However, his record of 23 straight defeats is off-putting; so he may be best covered with an each-way play. Grand Palace, on the other hand, comes here in great heart and, as he at least has a recently win under his belt, Derek Shaw's gelding looks the most reliable option here.
