Mersey Sound can outstay Iamback, Zaville, and Our Monogram in this two mile handicap. Plenty in with chances here as well, but Mersey Sound is given a narrow vote of confidence on the strength of a couple of decent efforts of late. David Elsworth's seven-year-old made the most of a decent mark when galloping his rivals into the ground at Newmarket in June, his first win since 2003, and then had to contend with a drop back to 12 furlongs at Salisbury, doing well in the circumstances to finish third. The move back up in trip is a big plus in his favour, and he remains well handicapped on form of old. Iamback appreciated the step up to a mile and a half when scoring at Folkestone in June, but he did not appear to see out the two miles there more recently. His apprentice can claim seven-pounds though so he should make a fist of it off his light weight. Zaville is the only three-year-old in the line-up and has shown a bit of promise on Turf so far, while Our Monogram made up for lost time when scoring over 18 furlongs at Chepstow, but did not beat much in truth. Darn Good and Moon Emperor could easily make their presence felt as well, but Mersey Sound is the suggestion.
