In depth

Verdict

Little Venice is taken to defy topweight, with Najaaba and Dispol Veleta not out of things at all. There was a lot to like about the comeback run of Little Venice at Thirsk as Chris Wall's mare plugged on well for third behind King Harson on what was her first outing since September. The soft ground was slightly against her and she is better over a mile these days, so has things very much in her favour today. Although she could do with coming down about five-pound in the weights, she does not have a lot to worry about here, with Najaaba as perhaps the main stumbling block. She too will appreciate the step up in trip after being touched off in a photo at Redcar last time, but she has been on the go already and might find the selection too fresh. Dispol Veleta has found a rise in the weights too much and the ground will be faster than she likes here as well, but at least she has winning form to her name this term. With a run to sharpen her up though, it is Little Venice who makes most appeal.
