In depth

Verdict

Pelham Crescent gets a narrow vote over the likes of Goodenough Mover, Torquemada and Forced Upon Us in a wide-open looking contest. This apprentice affair sets punters another poser, but with Lance Betts able to take 5lb off the back of Pelham Crescent, Bryn Palling's charge is selected to get recent losses back. The four-year-old was sent off as favourite at Brighton a fortnight ago, but seemed not to last out the mile and faded to finish third. The slight drop back in trip should help then, and as he is reasonably handicapped compared to last year, a good run is predicted. Goodenough Mover has won over seven-furlongs in the past, but the old-timer has been running well over shorter of late, while Torquemada bombed out badly on his last visit, having survived being hit over the head by a rival's whip to score over track-and-trip the time before. Forced Upon Us has gained both his career wins on the all-weather and has a penalty to carry, not to mention a low draw, so we return to Pelham Crescent as the answer.
