Although the Pacemakerworld.com Achilles Stakes has ¿32,000 in added prize-money, the field does not seem particularly strong for the five-furlong Listed contest. Yorkshire trainer David Nicholls is beginning to hit form now and his Funfair Wane comes into this event on the back of a victory at Beverley, where he beat today's opponent Peruvian Chief into second place by one length. However, Peruvian Chief now gets a 4lbs pull at the weights, so the indications are that it will again be a close-run thing between the pair. Nicholls also runs Rudi's Pet, but that one seems to have a fair bit to do under topweight of 9st 7lbs on his seasonal debut. Boleyn Castle has strong claims on last season's form, when he won twice from four attempts, and Roger Charlton's Deportivo is another leading contender based on his 2002 efforts. But as both Boleyn Castle and Deportivo are running for the first time this year, we side with the recent winning form of Funfair Wane.
