A tough one to call and Nouveau is only a tentative choice to get on the score sheet, while Motafarred and Nan Jan are others with more experience that can expected to be involved in the thick of the action. Plateau would also come into the equation if it could be guaranteed that he will cope with a mile but he was very disappointing the last time he raced over the trip, so may be best watched on this occasion. Nan Jan has been in cracking form this term and also merits consideration. However, this course is yet to bring the best out of her and, despite still being on a fair mark, she does have something to prove. Motafarred raced ostensibly over much further until winning an apprentices race over seven furlongs here last week. That result opened new windows of opportunity and the Micky Hammond-trained gelding should be monitored closely in the betting. Le Chiffre is another worth a mention, as he has been in good form of late and makes each-way appeal under his 6lb penalty. However, Nouveau has the most scope for improvement and, with his three-year-olds allowance combining with William Buick's 5lb claim leaving him on a featherweight, the son of Desert Style should not be underestimated from the foot of the weights.
