In depth

Verdict

Bucharest gets the nod over Golden Spectrum and Fantasy Crusader, while Blue Quiver should also be considered as a danger and is worth noting in the betting market. Blue Quiver benefited from a strong pace to score at Lingfield at the start of June and is likely to have the race run to suit once more. However, he is 10lb higher in the weights and has a stiff test ahead this evening. Fantasy Crusader wins in his turn and cannot be ruled out in this company. Still, he too takes a step up in grade and, as he struggles outside the lowest grade, he is vulnerable here. Golden Spectrum has a 6lb penalty to contend with after posting a storming effort at Wolverhampton nine days ago and also needs to be on his mettle. And for all his latent capabilities, he can never be relied upon to run two races the same. In truth, not many of these do, so it is with a cautious approach that Bucharest gets the nomination. It is worth bearing in mind that Michael Wigham's charge was rated 85 in March of last year, so form just 55, he could easily brush this lot aside if he puts his mind to it.
