In depth

Verdict

Cocozza was one of those fancied for last week's Lincoln but faded pretty tamely and Nazreef, who didn't make the cut for the Lincoln, raced over a longer trip at this track instead but never threatened. Frankie's back in town and gets the leg up on Double Dealer, who had Robemaker behind when third at Newmarket in October, but it's hard to tell how far forward the Godolphin horses are while Maverik was winning in the snow at St Moritz in February and beat the progressive George Guru here before that. Collateral form gives him plenty to find with AXIOM, however, as Ed Walker's charge was giving George Guru stacks of weight when runner-up to the latter at Lingfield a fortnight ago. He's preferred to stablemate Riggins, who finished a creditable sixth in the Winter Derby at the same meeting.
