In depth

Verdict

A poor opener and Stoneacre Gareth is probably up to taking it, with last year's winner Heavens Walk one for the short list along with Macademy Royal and Fromsong. The selection has been knocking on the door just lately without success in similar company and went close last time when just held over the minimum trip at Wolverhampton. Off the same mark he has a clear chance here and we take him to get his nose in front. Heavens Walk took this off a 12lb lower mark last year but is still capable of going well from this pitch. However, his yard are not in great form at present and so he is opposed. Macademy Royal is still open to improvement being lightly race, but he has been out of sorts just lately. With his yard having had recent winners, maybe his fortunes may change for the better but we will look elsewhere. Of the remainder Fromsong is a veteran on the downgrade but has not been going badly at all and a 4lb drop here will make him very competitive. He could give the selection most to do, but we prefer Stoneacre Gareth to come home in front.
