Verdict

On the strength of a promising effort last season, Clear Impression is the pick, with Gennie Bond, Lasso and Bountiful ones to note for the future. Peter Chappel-Hyam looks to have found a suitable opening for Clear Impression after the fillies' good run behind Suez at Goodwood last July. She has not been seen since then but by all account will make up for lost time, and this daughter of the stable's Queen Mary winner Shining Hour still holds an entry in the 1,000 Guineas. She was sent off as favourite at the Sussex track and is held in high regard. Gennie Bond has already had her limitations exposed, but to be fair, has taken on decent company, while Lasso's dam is a half-sister to Rebecca Sharp. Bountiful shaped well enough on her sole start here last summer, and will pick up a maiden in due course, but really there can only be one winner today if she has trained on, and that is Clear Impression.
