NEW WISH is a tentative selection ahead of Silver Steel and Farne Island. The nine-year-old holds very few secrets from the handicapper but his recent effort at Uttoxeter was respectable enough and as he has a preference for racing on a decent surface, he does at least have that in his favour. Silver Steel was a beaten favourite at Cartmel. He landed a gamble earlier in the year at Fontwell so the market has to be closely watched today. Farne Island has been a serial underachiever over hurdles so whether the switch to the larger obstacles makes any difference is something to mull over. Daraybad was a smart horse in France but his form has not travelled over with him to this side of the Channel. Troodos Jet can be somewhat too keen for his own good. Toulouse Express won off this mark at Sedgefield in June and would be a factor if consenting to race with a little enthusiasm this afternoon. Palos Conti appears to appreciate a sound surface and does have fewer miles on the clock than most. Carrietau takes a surprise drop in trip having been campaigned at distances up to three miles. A race not to be getting too heavily involved in but New Wish, while exposed as ordinary, has been given a realistic mark by the assessor to work off.
