In depth

Verdict

The good form of Nicky Henderson's string at Cheltenham has been carried over and he runs two in this. Birch Hill has had a few chances but BEWARE THE BEAR is unexposed after just the two runs. By Shantou, the better ground today should see him in a different light and he can get off the mark at the third attempt ahead of Sharpasaknife, who has only raced on heavy going so far and is conceding 10lb to the selection if you include Freddie Mitchell's allowance. Impulsive American was beaten off a lower mark at Taunton last time, though is still preferred to Raise A Spark.

Birch Hill (IRE) 7-2cfav (11-12) Held up in rear, headway 4th, not fluent 6th, outpaced 7th, weakened before normal 2 out, went 3rd on extended run-in, 3rd of 9, 25 1/2l behind Pinnacle Panda (11-9) at Sandown 2m 4f hcp (3) sft in Feb.

Beware The Bear (IRE) 11-4 (11-0) Tracked leaders, pushed along 7th, ridden in 4th after 3 out, one pace and no impression before next, 4th of 14, 18l behind Born Survivor (11-0) at Warwick 2m 5f mdn (4) sft in Dec.

Impulsive American 5-2fav (10-8) Raced in last pair, went 2nd before 3 out, challenged 2 out, driven flat, no impression towards finish, 2nd of 6, 2 1/4l behind Tornado In Milan (11-12) at Taunton 2m 3f hcp (3) sft in Mar.

Raise A Spark 10-1 (11-2) Took keen hold in rear but in touch, jumped right in places, weakened 2 out, modest 3rd, 3rd of 5, 33 1/2l behind Work In Progress (11-8) at Fakenham 2m 4f (3) gs in Feb.
