In depth

Verdict

Much depends on whether Superior Star turn out after his engagement at Pontefract yesterday, but assuming he is allowed to take his chance, he can strike while the iron is hot. United Nations and Evolution Ex are others to consider as alternatives, while Shy Glance can also go well at a fair price. The last named was an expensive purchase as a youngster but has yet to live up to his $200,000 price tag. He is in the right hands to pick up a small prize like this in due course and Allan Swinbank's charge is very much one for future reference. Evolution Ex has dropped to a favourable mark and is one to seriously consider if he is backed before the off. He does need everything to go his way at this level though and looks vulnerable in this company. United Nations is also up against it at the weights and, despite holding the ability to play a strong role, he comes here with a little to prove. Therefore, we stick with an in-form individual in Superior Star, who won well at Musselburgh at the start of this month and, having handled this course well the last time he raced here, Richard Fahey's three-year-old looks a solid option if he takes his place in the line up for the finale. Evolution Ex is forwarded as the best alternative.
