        Verdict

        Snark had to work hard to land a similar contest at Goodwood last month and Peter Makin's gelding may struggle to follow up under his penalty so preference is for Gallego, with Bolton Hall rated the pick of the remainder. The selection gained just reward for some consistent efforts when landing a lady riders' handicap at Salisbury last month, the first two clear of the third, and he is taken to defy the penalty for that success. Rawdon is capable of taking a hand but is not as good as he once was and looks best left out of calculations, while Sol Rojo has been running well without a great deal of success and may have to settle for minor honours. Bolton Hall has been running consistently well but has yet to prove that he stays this far so may be booked for a place at best and preference is for Gallego.
