Verdict

TAMARILLO GROVE should handle the ground and is preferred to Raqeeb, Miss Antonia and Christmas Carnival. Bryan Smart's Cape Cross colt is unexposed after just three starts and the feeling is that the drop in trip today will suit. His opening handicap mark of 75 looks fair enough if not generous but this shorter trip will help him see out his race better and he should acquit himself well. Miss Antonia was last seen at the start of July winning a weak Wolverhampton maiden and she must be respected with that overdue win under her belt, Dream On Buddy has been given a break since flopping at Nottingham and is not discounted, whilst Spread Boy is lightly-weighted and may revel in the testing ground this evening. Blinkers are tried on Raqeeb who hasn't been with Ruth Carr for long and this expensive purchase is one to watch in the betting, whilst Christmas Carnival won on good-to-soft ground at Nottingham last month and a 4lb rise for beating a reliable yardstick in Sir George may be lenient. If the blinkers work for the second time then he could be a big danger, however we are happy enough to side with Tamarillo Grove as the selection.
