In depth

Verdict

Michael Bell's Syrian created a favourable impression when making a winning debut at Yarmouth in July and he has to be of interest on his first start since then here but the softer ground may not be to his advantage and a better bet looks to be EMERALD COMMANDER, who gets the vote ahead of Nideeb. Clive Brittain's colt won his maiden in good fashion on soft ground at Yarmouth in July and ran well in defeat when beaten just a nose by Party Doctor in a Listed race at Ascot. He has an obvious chance following that effort and makes more appeal than Saeed Bin Suroor's Black Snowflake, who is not certain to handle the underfoot conditions. Brian Meehan's Timely Jazz looks to be going the right way and has to be respected but it is hard to get away from Emerald Commander, who has done little wrong of late and he is preferred.
