Nurseries are notoriously difficult to predict at this time of year given the different rates of progression but Tom Dascombe saddled the first and third in this contest last year and is again double-handed. Five Helmets is heading in the right direction and looks a leading candidate with Richard Kingscote preferring him the more-exposed Finoah. High Horse has shown to suggest he’ll be winning soon but has a welter burden to carry. Ventura Bay has progressed with each run and also goes on the short-list but it was only a seller, albeit an above-average one, that Solesmes won at Goodwood. There was significant improvement from TRIPLE ONE upped to 6f at Chepstow and it looks like the penny might have dropped now with Michael Bell’s colt, who changed hands for 82,000gns earlier this year.
