Verdict

In a modest handicap, Eboracum just gets the vote ahead of Banana Grove and Sunset Mirage. If the selection can run to the form of his half-length defeat by Keeper's Lodge three runs ago, then he must hold a good chance here. The downside is that connections have seen fit to apply blinkers to him. That said, in a race where there are question marks against a number of runners, he seems to hold as a good a chance as any. Banana Grove stepped up markedly on previous efforts when winning a Redcar maiden last time. Much as the handicapper has taken a slightly harder view of that effort than might have been hoped for, he is entitled to respect in this six-runner affair. Sunset Mirage was just touched off from today's mark at Brighton two runs ago and has form enough to be fancied, although she possibly is not one to place complete faith in if it comes to a battle. Devious Ayers is lightly raced but has not shown too much just yet, a similar comment applying to Koodoo. Overall, then, it what appears to be a modest handicap, Eboracum just gets the vote.
