Plenty of these have chances including Frimley's Matterry, Thornaby Green and Redoubtable but the vote goes to Roman Empire. The selection is lightly raced on turf, having been campaigned mainly on the all-weather, but has run most of his races on a soft surface when away from the sand. Potentially well treated, Kevin Ryan's gelding is marginally preferred to Thornaby Green. David Barron's gelding showed improved form when returned to this trip behind Morgan Lewis at Haydock recently and should be suited by the cut in the ground. Like the selection, Frimley's Matterry has done much of his racing on the all-weather and could be of interest, while Redoubtable has held his form well at the age of 13. Bond Playboy showed signs of a return to form on his most recent start and is another to consider along with the consistent My Bayard. A market move for Fenwicks Pride would be of interest, while the 11-year-old Mallia is not without a chance on the pick of his form but the vote goes to Roman Empire.
