Paul Blockley's Sophrano ran one of his better races under similar conditions here over six furlongs last time and should have little difficulty in confirming that form over today's longer trip and, in so doing, proving to be too strong for his main rivals Mehmaas and Bonjour Bond. The selection remains a maiden but has shown enough to suggest that a race as weak as this would be well within his compass. Like the selection, Mehmaas is well treated at the weights judged by BHB ratings but unlike the selection he is not at home under testing conditions. Brian Smart's Bonjour Bond has so far failed to live up to his pedigree and is difficult to recommend with any confidence. Similar comments apply to most of the remainder as well with the likes of Lord Of Methley, Merlins Profit and Wood Fern regular runners in this grade. Of more interest may be Linda Perratt's three-year-old Compassion, who is less exposed than most. However, Sophrano looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to open his account and is taken to do so.
