ALCALDE made a pleasing comeback at Yarmouth and should relish this longer trip; Hawk Mountain and the in-form Kames Park look the pick of his rivals. Mark Johnston's gelding already has three wins to his name and he held his form well last season. Although he didn't seem to get this trip last year the hope is that he will stay further as he matures and as his dam won over this trip the required stamina should be there. The step back up in trip and the return to quicker ground should suit Kimberley Downs, Hawk Mountain is a strong-stayer who is considered despite looking high enough in the weights, whilst Gordonsville shaped much better at Ripon last time out and is far from ruled out for an in-form yard. Black Jacari has ability and should be monitored for signs of confidence on this first start for a new yard, Kames Park shocked the crowd with a 25/1 win at Beverley last time but is not harshly punished by the handicapper for that facile win, whilst Wicked Daze's good form at the turn of the year came in claiming grade. Proud Times and Prince Picasso are both considered, however in a tricky puzzle it is Alcalde who is preferred.
