In depth

Verdict

The market will tell us whether it's worth siding with Next Of Kin but in the absence of support we'll award our vote to Aleatricis. The selection is no great shakes and did return a beaten favourite at Lingfield last time but his yard could hardly be in better form and has a strike rate of one in three at this track. He's never going to live up to his illustrious pedigree but it will be surprising if his connections can't find a race for him and this would appear to be a suitable opportunity. Next Of Kin makes his handicap bow over a trip more in keeping with his breeding and may find considerable improvement for it; he's one to watch closely. Hoar Frost and Blazing Mask are closely matched on their running in a claimer here last time and both enter calculations whilst Jemima's Art beat all bar a useful one last time and should go well from just a 1lb higher mark. Marie Camargo is a half-sister to the yard's smart Anna Pavlova and may well improve for her first outing beyond nine furlongs; once again the market may provide us with some indication of expectations. An interesting heat in which we'll take a chance with Aleatricis.
