This is a poor race to open the card and from a shortlist of Veloso, Flying Spirit and Cossack Prince we will side with VELOSO as the pick. The selection has got some decent form over hurdles and although he was well beaten on the level last time, that was in a handicap and dropped into this grade he has to hold solid claims. Flying Spirit went close when he chased home Captain Beckett at Fontwell in a handicap hurdle last time. He has got some decent form on the level though and he should be capable of getting competitive. The fact that Ryan Moore is doing the steering is another big plus. Cossack Prince wasn't beaten far when third behind Blue Jet in a seller at Haydock last time. He should again run his race but he is a bit one-paced and he may again find a couple too good. Champagne Dancer could be of interest now that he is upped in trip, but in an open looking event the vote is given to Veloso.
