A strangely modest race for Goodwood with the vote going to Calabaza ahead of Staunchly, Greenmeadow, Piroetta, Oatcake, Millsy and Bauhinia. The selection is the highest-rated of these to have been given a mark, although that rating is just 64. However, with many seemingly modest opponents, he ought to run some kind of race, and first-time blinkers might help in that respect. The Luca Cumani-trained Staunchly, whose dam is a half-sister to Belmez is one to look at in the betting, while Piroetta made some late headway at Newbury last time and, with her stable in fairly good form, might yet improve again. Oatcake disappointed on her seasonal return but had shown lots of promise on her sole juvenile start, while Millsy's second at Lingfield last time - on soft going - showed that she is going the right way, although the winner there has been beaten off a mark of 66 in a handicap since. Greenmeadow seemed to be improving at Nottingham last time, while Bauhinia got the hang of things late on at Yarmouth on his debut and is entitled to improve on that. Encora Bay was second on his seasonal return, but the winner has been beaten from a mark of 50 in a handicap since, and Navigation has shown promise at a fairly modest level, but it should make him reasonably competitive today. Finally, Imperial Rule hails from a good stable but has shown little in two starts but, for the selection, we return to Calabaza.
