Verdict
A decent renewal of this prestigious prize and the vote goes to Tillerman to repeat his success of twelve months ago while Arakan rates the biggest danger ahead of Where Or When and Dandoun. Amanda Perrett's charge was found to be distressed when finishing well behind Arakan here on his latest start but had previously shown himself as good as ever at the age of seven. The In The Wings entire made a winning return at Leicester before chasing home Dubai Destination in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and confirmed the form when an easy winner of a Group 3 over the course and distance last month. The selection boasts a smart turn of foot, and with fast conditions in his favour, is taken to bounce back to form under Richard Hughes. Arakan has done nothing but improve all season and confirmed himself a top class miler after looking unlucky not to land a Group 2 event at the Glorious meeting. Sir Michael Stoute's charge travelled well throughout before finding trouble in running and had to be switched for a run before making up several lengths inside the final furlong and just failing to reel in the winner. The three-year-old remains open to further improvement and will prove a formidable opponent. Where Or When put up his best performance last season when landing the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in September but has been well below that level of form in two starts this term and looks set to struggle under a 6lb penalty while Dandoun just falls short of what is required at this level and also has to concede weight to the principals.
