Verdict

Nahaarr showed further progress with an impressive success at Newbury and a 7lb rise may not be enough to prevent another bold bid. But MERAAS is also a progressive sprinter who was winning for the third time in only five starts when scoring easily at Hamilton in the Scottish version of this. A good run from the runner-up Call Me Ginger in the consolation race earlier on the card would boost confidence and Mark Johnston’s sprinter gets the vote. Last year’s runner-up Open Wide and fourth-placed Summerghand failed to get a clear run on that occasion but still finished ahead of Gulliver, Stone Of Destiny, Kimifive and George Bowen while Lexington Dash missed out on a hat-trick at Newmarket last time but today’s faster going will suit. Swindler is not the most straightforward but will have come on for last month’s outing at Headquarters while Hey Jonesy just got the better of Summerghand to win the Wokingham in first-time blinkers at Ascot with Danzeno behind. Watan and Aljady are others worth a second glance.
