In depth

Verdict

It is worth siding with experience in the opening maiden and the race looks between Goose Green, Urban warrior and Queen Of Narnia with the Mick Channon-trained, Queen Of Narnia getting our vote. She was third in a soft-ground Warwick maiden on her debut, the second-placed horse that day, Gradetime, was an easy winner at Southwell last Friday and a reproduction of the Warwick run can see our selection go very close. Urban Warrior is becoming expensive to follow and was second when odds-on in a recent Southwell maiden. He may have to settle for minor honours again today. Goose Green was third in a maiden at this course on his debut and then disappointed at Leicester last week. His breeding suggests that he will be better suited over longer distances and the jockey booking indicates he is the stable's second string. Our selection then in the opener is Queen Of Narnia.
