Despite his rather exposed profile VANADIUM is given the vote to land it against some unexposed rivals, those being Pragmatist, who's trainer Peter Winkworth can do little wrong at present while Island Treasure and Crataegus are others that if the market speak in their favour, they would be of interest. The selection, a five-time career winner and once a winner this season, has disappointed in four outings since that victory in May but the formbook suggests he does act with an ease in the ground and if putting his best foot forward he could take some stopping. Pragmatist won off a 4lb higher mark at the end of May and looked to find the seven furlongs at Lingfield on the sharp side last time. A winner on good to soft ground earlier in her career, whether she will handle an extreme give in the ground is the unknown, but the stiffer finish on offer here will be more to her liking. Island Treasure encounters much different ground conditions to those he has encountered in his four race career. He will probably be better with an extra furlong as he looked tapped for toe when required to quicken while Crataegus raced green last time but off his current mark and as he learns, he should be capable of getting his head in front. Hits Only Cash returns to a mark of 65 after a solid effort at Lingfield last time. He certainly won't be lacking for stamina come the business end being a nine furlong winner but he might be vulnerable against the lesser exposed sorts in it. Palais Polaire is 5lb higher for a victory at Brighton, his first in 23 starts. Pragmatist is given the vote to come home in front.
