Verdict

CHEVISE gets the nod here ahead of the equally promising Regal Approval and potential improver Star Today. Ralph Beckett has his stable in good form and this Holy Roman Emperor filly improved from first to second runs. She is out of a dam who was a winner at two years of age and she looks a snip at £5000. Star Today was not so cheap but this half-sister to Mia's Boy is from a good family and she looks bound to improve with age and a slightly longer trip. Ventose ran in a better race than this at Newbury earlier in the month but was well-held and her two starting prices to date suggest that she's a bit of a slow learner at home whilst Will Barrow is another who will be of more interest in lowly handicaps after this run. Regal Approval got to within two lengths of Byronic on debut at Windsor and Hughie Morrison's colt has a Gimcrack entry. His sales price rose dramatically at the breeze-up sales and even a repeat of his debut run could be enough to seal victory today. However we'll side with Chevise who can keep on improving to win at the third time of asking.
