Serre Chevalier is the suggestion in a wide-open handicap, with Border Music, Acomb and Flint River just a few more possibles. Serre Chevalier displayed battling qualities and looked to have a bright future when opening his account at Sandown last summer. That was over a mile, but his first two outings of the current campaign were both over six furlongs, and as he was probably in need of each of those runs, at Leicester and Yarmouth, he was expected to improve markedly when put over seven furlongs at Newmarket last month, and improve he did, as he beat the heavily backed Polar Magic. Despite a small rise in the weights, Walter Swinburn's charge should go close in his follow-up bid and is the pick. Border Music made the most of a bad draw to finish third at Goodwood last time, and is closely matched with Katiypour who got no sort of run in fifth. Both can figure along with Acomb who is now chasing a hat-trick. His four-pound penalty and front-running tactics will make him a sitting duck though, and he is passed over. Flint River is dangerous to leave out, and as he encountered traffic problems at Goodwood in the race won by Stage Secret, is yet another worth a mention. Plenty in with chances then, but a narrow vote goes to Serre Chevalier.
