Vengeance is selected to get the better of Gavroche and Solent, with Focus Group perhaps best of the remainder. Vengeance is a tough dual-purpose performer who has one thing in his favour at least-he has won over the course-and-distance, having collected the Great Metropolitan on his return to the Flat in April. Prior to that, Simon Dow's local hope had been in winning form over timber and will lack for nothing in fitness as he bids to make the leap into Class 2 company a successful one. The six-year-old should go close with conditions in his favour and can account for a fair if not outstanding field. Gavroche has won twice round here in the past and proved that he stays when scoring over 12 furlongs at Goodwood recently. The drying ground will help his cause, and he can go well despite topweight. Solent handled the soft ground well when winning at Newbury, but is equally adept on faster going, so is also respected despite a rise in the weights. Best of the remainder may be Focus Group who hails from the stable that sent out Crow Wood to score last year, but Vengeance is the pick of those at the top of the weights.
