    In depth

    Verdict

Empress Jain can defy a 4lb penalty at the expense of the equally in-form Mutamared, with Merlin's Dancer, Corridor Creeper and Intriguing Glimpse seen as other obvious threats. There are some real speedsters on show here, including four from the Dandy Nicholls yard, last year's winner Fire Up The Band, Peace Offering, Continent and Merlin's Dancer. Best of the quartet this time could well be Merlin's Dancer who is able to race off a 5lb lower mark than when making all at Chester despite his 4lb penalty. However, even he will do well to stop Empress Jain from cracking out and galloping her way to victory judged on what we have seen so far from Michael Jarvis's filly. She lines up unbeaten on each of her last three visits to the racecourse, including when defying a 15lb rise at Chester where she did not see another rival. Even with a penalty she is able to race off a 3lb lower mark than her present handicap rating, and should take some catching. If the ground dries out then Mutamared will be a major threat. Connections have the Wokingham in mind, but he has been campaigned over six furlongs of late, and although he will be coming there at the end, the trip might just find him out. The locals will be cheering on Intriguing Glimpse who has a plumb draw in stall one, but the class act is the flying filly Empress Jain who looks the one to beat.
