MAC'S POWER, Effigy and Major Phil make easily the most appeal here with narrow preference for the former. James Fanshawe's gelding races off the same mark that saw him score his last win on the Polytrack at Kempton. Whilst both wins have come at that track there's no concern about his ability to act on turf following an unlucky third behind Day Of The Eagle last time; he'd have been second with a clear run and that rival has since scored in comfortable fashion in a better race, so with his rating of 79 unchanged he's got to have an excellent chance here if coping with cut; his sire did, so we're hopeful. Day Of The Eagle is trained by Luca Cumani so he should know where he stands in saddling Major Phil to take on our selection. Like our selection, his two wins have come on artificial surfaces but he placed at Newcastle last time so with the yard's handicappers continuing in fine form he's only opposed with concerns about a 2lb rise in the weights for that defeat. Likewise Effigy has been bumped up by the assessor for taking second last time and that may just stop this gelding adding to his two wins, both of which came over today's distance. He acts with cut and Henry Candy has his runners in form so a bold show is expected nevertheless. Prohibition has been disappointing since returning from over a year off in December but his sole win, a ready success over recent Conditions winner Class Is Class, came on heavy ground so rain won't harm his chance. Shadowtime is due to run at York on Friday so his participation must be in some doubt; he's opposable anyway following a game success at Beverley as this is tougher even before his rise in the weights is factored into calculations. Thunderball took a course and distance second last time but is up 3lbs and remains a maiden on turf so we'll take him on in favour of Mac's Power, who looks good to run a huge race.
