    Verdict

Red Lancer is given the vote in a competitive handicap to open the card, with Masafi and Jagger rating as the main dangers. The selection will be suited by the step-up in trip as he was doing all his best work at the finish at Haydock last time when sixth behind Courageous Duke. He handles tight tracks well as he proved when winning here last May and with conditions to suit he looks the one to be with. Masafi rates the main danger as he was a good second behind Ouninpohja at Pontefract last Sunday. The first two were well clear of the rest of the field that day and he looks capable of going close off his current mark. Jagger ran well at York on Wednesday in a more competitive race than this and it is interesting that he is turned out again so quickly. He got worked up in the preliminaries on the knavesmire so it was a commendable effort to finish sixth behind Sergeant Cecil. High Action has won on this track before so he is another to consider, but he is probably better over further and for the winner we will stick with Red Lancer.
