Nita Smith's Ibal runs here as opposed to in a more valuable race at Sandown and he looks worth a bet on his handicap debut over fences. The French-bred has taken well to the larger obstacles winning novice events at Plumpton (twice) and here over course and distance, looks fairly treated on a mark of 134 and, with testing conditions to suit, he gets the vote. Topweight Galapiat Du Mesnil has failed to sparkle this term and is again probably best watched having disappointed over hurdles last time and a bigger danger may prove to be Indalo. The Venetia Williams-trained gelding has been in progressive form of late but has risen in the weights as a result and has more to do here than when winning at Plumpton last month. Gus Des Bois has been running well recently but has been done no favours by the handicapper, while the consistent Asparagus may again have to settle for minor honours.
