Verdict

Sharjah has only run in a handicap over timber once before, winning the Galway Hurdle in 2018. He’s a high-class performer but also the senior runner in this. The versatile Anna Bunina looks in good nick and Highway One O Two would have a chance on his form in the autumn while Aucunrisque and Filey Bay fought out a terrific finish to the Betfair at Newbury last month and pulled well clear of the remainder headed by Teddy Blue. First Street and Ballyadam were second and fifth respectively in this last year and go on the shortlist again but GIN COCO has more scope than the majority of these. He ran well in a big field at last year’s Punchestown Festival and again in the Greatwood here in November. Put away after that, he should cope with a 4lb rise. Saint Sam was second in the Boodles here two years ago on his only previous run in a handicap but connections of Pembroke have chosen a tough race for their gelding’s handicap debut, though he will enjoy conditions. Pinkerton was progressing prior to his latest run over 2m4f but Hunters Yarn has been doing his winning in less competitive affairs.
