The Old Soldier is given the vote here with Merlins Profit and Ace Club put forward as the main dangers. The selection is a course and distance winner and he is in good form a present having finished fourth behind Lord of the East at Newcastle last time. The inexperienced Kirsty Milczareck rode him in that apprentice race and with the useful claimer Mark Halford taking over in the plate today he looks set for a big run. Merlins Profit is respected as he won well last time when beating Senor Bond over 1m at Musselburgh. However, he has a 6lbs penalty for that success and with the drop in trip unlikely to play to his strengths he looks worth opposing today. Ace Club was disappointing last time but that was over the minimum trip and the return to 7f could see him go well at a decent each-way price. Weet Watchers has run well before over today¿s course and distance so he is another worth a look in the market, but for the winner we will stick with The Old Soldier.
