Verdict

For us, this race is a spin-of-a-coin between Lord Rodney and Malaga Boy, with the vote going to Malaga Boy. The selection followed up his Exeter win on heavy going with a fair second to Bowleaze on better going at Wincanton last time. That form is more than good enough to give him a big chance today and, accordingly, he gets the vote, although the drop in trip from those runs is a slight concern. Lord Rodney looks the danger. Having won at Wetherby over 21 furlongs, he has since disappointed twice, but the drop in trip today could help him and he ought to go well. Turning to the others, and Richard Guest's Antipodean import, Diamond Cutter, showed little form down under but should be noted in the betting, and the Irish raider, Life Match, has a chance on his 2002 form, but that's a long way to clutch for a straw of form. The other three are hard to fancy, which spins us back to the selection, which is Malaga Boy.
