In depth

Verdict

Weaver George can gain a deserved success, with Fashions Monty and Grumpy Stumpy his main rivals. At the age of 14, it is amazing that Weaver George is still making his presence felt, and as he is still very well treated compared to his old form, Wilf Storey's charge should run another big race. A winner over fences here three years ago, he now rests on a stone lower mark and has been making the most of that with some honest efforts in defeat since scoring at Southwell in May. Graham Lee gets on very well with him and is once again in the saddle. Fashions Monty ran well from five-pounds out of the handicap when third in the Durham National in April, and although likely to need the run, will be placed to good effect in long-distance chases this winter. Grumpy Stumpy was having his first outing for nearly two years when fourth at Towcester recently and with the Twiston-Davies team in great form, should not be ruled out here. Ta Ta For Now is not badly weighted and will be staying on up the hill, but Weaver George is taken to have the measure of him and the rest.
