Verdict

David Nicholls has farmed this race in recent times and sends out Funfair Wane, who won this race in 2003. The son of Unfuwain will be hard to beat in his repeat bid. Philharmonic and Fictional may give him the most to do. It also has to be of interest that Godolphin have kept Gulf Of Mexico in training and he is very much the dark horse in the race. However, the son of Smart Strike has not been seen in action for the best part of two years and he is probably best watched on his British debut. Fictional and Ms Chicaf fared well as three-year-olds and there should be more to come from them both. However, they too have long absences to overcome and have something to prove on balance. Philharmonic ran a blinder over course and distance last month and confirmed that he has trained on. Still, he has a lot to find with Funfair Wane on last season's Ayr Gold Cup form and everything looks in place for this to be heading to the Nichols team once more.
