    Verdict

With the likes of Academy Brief and Tom Bell exposed as moderate and Lady Dulcet soon struggling in an average maiden at Chepstow on Monday, this probably boils down to a match between Scalloway and Handicap debutante Island Lady, with the latter getting a narrow vote. John Hills' filly showed she has a little race in her when just denied by Lesath at Southwell back in April, with Academy Brief a neck away in third. That was only her second outing whereas Academy Brief was having his 14th outing, so it is safe to assume the selection should be open to a fair bit of improvement from that effort and as they meet on the same terms, she should certainly finish on top again. Scalloway has been done no favours by the raising of the weights, but as she is out of a mare that won twice over this trip, it would be folly to dismiss her chance. However, as this will be her seasonal debut she may just need the outing to put her right.
