Verdict

TILOS GEM looks like a typical Mark Johnston improver and he has solid claims on this maiden ahead of Voortrekker and Pokfulham. The selection was progressing nicely last season before not handling bottomless ground on his last start of that campaign. His reappearance this term confirmed that earlier promise and with more expected now back on a sounder surface he is the confident choice. Voortrekker ran a very pleasing debut being just beaten into third by a horse now rated at 79. That form has him closely matched with the selection but it is unclear if he'll improve past his rival to score. Pokfulham ran a little disappointingly on his seasonal bow in a handicap but should go better now back in maiden company though he looks to have plenty to find and Madal should go better than last time now on quick ground. Not much strength in depth in this field which will suit the selection Tilos Gem.
